Fly Microsoft Flight Simulator with a screen reader
MSFS Blind Assist is a free Windows application that gives totally blind and visually impaired pilots full control of supported aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. It uses standard Windows controls, screen reader announcements and global hotkeys, so you fly with your keyboard and the peripherals you already own. It is designed for NVDA and JAWS.
What it does
- Cockpit panels you can read. Scroll through switches, knobs and controls with your keyboard, hear their state and operate them.
- Readouts on demand. Heading, speed, altitude, vertical speed, the next waypoint, fuel, weather and much more, each on a hotkey.
- Automatic announcements. Master Warning and Master Caution, system changes, ECAM and EICAS messages, Flight Mode Annunciator modes and TCAS guidance are spoken as they happen.
- Taxi guidance. Turn-by-turn directions with a stereo-panned steering tone and spoken turns, crossings and hold-shorts, built from your ATC clearance and the real taxiway and gate names.
- Flight management. Accessible MCDU, CDU, MFD and Electronic Flight Bag access on the supported aircraft, so you program the FMS yourself.
- Takeoff and landing help. Take-off assistance, visual landing guidance tones, and your landing rate and g-force after every touchdown.
- Know where you are. A text-based map and location viewer, a route viewer with SID, STAR and approach procedures, and airport and runway lookup.
